IBM IoT Executive: Industrial IoT Is "Low Hanging Fruit" For Partners

1:29

IBM executive Brian Dalgetty argues that the industrial market is "low hanging fruit" for IoT opportunities. At Evolution Expo, he refers to the fact that manufacturing companies are beginning to adopt IoT solutions and he's calling this "the fourth revolution." There are hundreds of connected devices on the market, and in his presentation, Dalgetty discusses a few particular collaborations that are happening in the world of IoT. For instance, IBM has recently worked with connected home appliance manufacturer Whirlpool in order to equip the company with IBM Watson services. Ultimately, this allows them to provide more personalized services to customers. At the expo, Dalgetty urged partners who are investing in IoT to think about the data behind products instead of just the connected products themselves. "There's hundreds of millions of dollars of expense savings that [Whirlpool is] projecting in the next couple of years as part of their warranties and support costs," said Dalgetty. With a multitude of opportunities ahead, there is great opportunity for not only increased productivity, but cost savings with IoT.
